Raffles Institution were founded in June 1823 as the Singapore Institution by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, who established the basis for our country’s emergence as a major centre of mercantile trade.
He sought to establish a premier educational institution that would serve Singapore well.
His vision lives on in our motto, Auspicium Melioris Aevi – ‘Hope of a Better Age’ in Latin.
Admissions
Secondary 4 students currently studying in mainstream Singapore schools can enter RI through two different admissions exercises: Direct School Admission and the Joint Admissions Exercise.
Year 5 Direct School Admissions
The DSA exercise is an initiative by the Ministry of Education that allows for a more diverse range of talents to be recognised in student admission.
This exercise is for Singaporean, Singapore PR, and International students who:
- are currently studying in mainstream Singapore schools;
- have outstanding talent in academics, sports, or music.
Applicants can only apply under one domain, and cannot switch domains.
Successful DSA-JC students cannot participate in JAE (Joint Admissions Exercise) or transfer to another school after the release of the O-Level results.
Domains: Academics, Sports and Music
Joint Admissions Exercise
The JAE is conducted annually by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to allow Singapore-Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level certificate holders to apply for admission to courses offered by JC (Junior Colleges).
Successful DSA-JC students are not allowed to participate in the JAE. For appeals to a JC course, students have to first meet the cut-off point of the course for that year’s JAE. Eligible appeals will be considered, subject to available vacancies and the school’s admission criteria.
