Founded in 2005, Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) is a member of the Hwa Chong family of schools. The school’s mission is to develop internationalism, innovation and independence in our students. As a local international school, half of the students are Singaporeans or Permanent Residents, a requirement of the Ministry of Education (Singapore). The rest of the student body comprises of international students from over 20 countries.
HCIS has distinguished itself as a highly sought-after school over the last decade. Students under the guidance of the school have achieved much, be it in accolades in competitions at both the local and international arena, or scholastic achievements and admission to well-known universities.
The school currently offers an integrated six-year programme which prepares students for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at Year 4 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) at Year 6.
One of the school’s strengths lies in the learning of Chinese for students who have little or weak mastery of the language. Since the school’s inception, whether performance at IGCSE or IBDP, the exceptionally high attainment is attributable to a supportive learning environment for the language, a flexible curriculum and teaching pedagogies pegged to the learning ability of students.
Anchoring on Asian values, students of HCIS receive a holistic education where academic achievements are emphasized alongside character development. This is achieved through a diverse range of activities that broaden and enrich students’ learning across cognitive and effective domains. These activities include overseas trips, outdoor activities, student-led initiatives as well as community services. For international students, their learning is also highly enriched with the understanding and appreciation of Singapore’s social, cultural and economic makeup, thereby strengthening their sense of internationalism.
With support from parents, alumni and the Hwa Chong community, HCIS can definitely scale greater heights to define educational excellence in international education.
