Our founding father, Mr Tham, was a strong swimmer at a young age. As a water polo player, he had a passion for swimming and would head into the water whenever he could. However, many of his friends did not know how to swim as proper swimming lessons were unwarranted back then in 1980, where Singapore was still in its early development years.
During that time, adults and children alike usually enjoyed water play at canals, as these were free public spaces and were close to residential places. In 1981, a sudden rise in tide levels took two boys by surprise while they were playing at the canal and our founding father lost his longtime playmate on that very fateful day. He took an oath at his best friend’s grave that he would make it his life mission from then onwards to teach as many kids as possible to swim.
Today, our founding father consolidated 35 years of his teaching experience into The Swim Starter manual, a copyrighted coaching methodology that has proven to be effective in equipping young learners with the capability to learn swimming fast. The Swim Starter aims to pass on our founding father’s vision by first protecting the children of Singapore, before expanding its operations in Asia.
